ParkLake, a Sonae Sierra and Caelum Development Joint venture project, was recently awarded with the best Concept & Design Project of the Year at the 10th Annual SEE Real Estate Awards for 2015, which was held in Bucharest, Romania.

Awarded in the shopping centre category “Architecture and Design”, ParkLake is designed according to international top standards in terms of quality, safety and sustainability. The project’s goal is to establish a highly efficient operation and thus minimize GHG emissions, have an efficient use of water and an efficient waste management. Furthermore, the centre will have a unique, sustainable design themed around “Park – Nature – Family”, which opens to visitors an innovative shopping experience matching the modern consumer’s demands like friendly parking, resting areas, light-flooded mall with entertainment and environment friendly ambience.

The shopping centre will have a food court terrace with a view to the park and a green area that will be used for leisure and sports, special events, seasonal markets, as a great complementary offer to the park, offering additional green space and open-air entertainment.

This recognition comes as a confirmation of such work ensuring a sensational opening of ParkLake in September 2016.

The organizers rated the “Project of the Year” award winners according to quality of design, building efficiency, quality of location, environmental concerns and commercial success.
The event brought together some of the region’s top real estate developers, investors and market professionals.

ParkLake represents €180 million in investment and it will open doors in September 2016. The shopping centre will offer high quality retail on 70,000m2 GLA with more than 200 shops, including 23 restaurants, a cinema multiplex, and 2,450 spaces of underground car parking. The centre will have a unique, environmentally friendly design and a distinctive mix of leisure and sports features connected with the adjoining Titan Park. ParkLake has so far signed and/or committed 94% of the GLA.

A sustainable centre

Sonae Sierra and Caelum Development will offer a unique, environmentally friendly design and a distinctive mix of leisure and open-air activities, as well as features connected with the adjoining Titan Park, altogether increasing the offer of outdoor entertainment and leisure. Additionally, ParkLake embraces sustainability as a key factor in its development, also playing an important role during its future operational phase with the implementation of resource efficient equipment and design.

A rigorous management and monitoring system will bring together a set of measures with the purpose of diminishing the environmental impact, besides ensuring the safety and health of employees, tenants, service providers and visitors. This approach during the construction and operation of ParkLake will actively contribute to greater cost efficiency and savings through lifetime operations of the centre, with efficient use of energy resources and a positive impact on its surroundings. Likewise, the Joint Venture aims at certifying the shopping centre with the world’s foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings.
